Congress High Command has appointed MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Vading as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Party. Along with this, senior party leader and former president Pratap Bajwa has been made the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the Punjab Assembly. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved these appointments. The party high command has appointed former state minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu as working president of Punjab Congress, while Rajkumar Chabbewal has been made deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
Saved seat even in AAP storm
Raja represents Giddarbaha in the Vading Legislative Assembly and has been elected MLA for the third time from this traditional seat. He was chosen by Rahul Gandhi to lead the Indian Youth Congress. The Congress high command had recently accepted resignations from party chiefs in the respective states following the party’s defeat in the assembly elections in five states, including Punjab. Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation was also taken in Punjab, after which many names were coming out among the contenders for this post. After the meeting held in Delhi last week, it was indicated that the high command would announce the Punjab Congress chief this week.
Raja Vading is a flamboyant leader
Raja Vading’s image is that of a flamboyant leader. Even during the government of Captain Amarinder Singh, he did not hesitate to criticize his government on issues related to the people and the promises made by the party to the people. After the resignation of Captain, he was made Transport Minister in the Charanjit Singh Channi government, then he worked fast and tightened the screws on the buses of influential people including Badals. However, he could not get much success in this work in the short term government.
Will again brainstorm the reasons for the defeat: Raja Vading
After being elected the President of Punjab Congress, Raja Vading has said that he will work hard to restore the party to its old identity. He also said that the party’s defeat in the assembly elections will be reconsidered and the level of lapses and wherever there have been shortcomings, they will be rectified by mutual coordination within the party. He said that he will take everyone along and will also take strong steps to strengthen the organization.
