The Power Minister made it clear that if the families belonging to SC-BC have 2-3 KW load capacity, then their bill will have to be paid in full if their bill is above 600 units.
Under the scheme to provide 300 units of free electricity in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, surrounded by the recovery of the entire bill from the general category, has come on the backfoot. On Thursday, State Power Minister Harbhajan Singh did damage control and talked about changes in the conditions related to the free electricity scheme. According to him, except the BPL families with one kilowatt load, the same general category rule will be applicable to the SC and BC families who pay income tax. Under this, it has been made mandatory to pay the full bill on consumption of more than 600 units in two months’ bill.
The Power Minister said on Tuesday that there would be no power crisis in Punjab. He said that 300 units for one month and 600 units for two months have been waived off to BPL families having electricity connection up to one kilowatt load. He further said that the general category rule would be applicable to SC and BC consumers having load of 2 and 3 kilowatts.
These SC-BCs will also get 600 units of electricity free in two months, but after that, if their consumption exceeds 600 units, they will have to pay the full bill. Along with this, the Power Minister also made it clear that the condition of the general category will also apply to the families of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes who pay income tax.
These income tax payers will also have to pay the full bill for electricity consumption exceeding 600 units. The Power Minister further said that in the previous government, SC and BPL families with one kilowatt load were given 200 units of free electricity but now it has been increased to 300 units. 600 units will be waived in the two-month bill of these categories, whereas for the consumption of electricity above that, only the money for the additional unit will be charged.
SC-BC with 2-3 kilowatt load will have to pay full bill
The Power Minister made it clear that if the families belonging to SC-BC have 2-3 KW load capacity, then their bill will have to be paid in full if their bill is above 600 units. There will be no exemption in this. The Power Minister said that no discrimination has been made by the government from the general class, but the previous governments had cheated the general class. The Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab is also giving 600 units of free electricity to the general category.
