Split in BKU: The script of another split in BKU was written in the farmers’ movement itself, the officials were getting upset with the centralization of power

2 min read

During the last assembly elections, Rakesh Tikait had said that EVMs will also have to be guarded. This was not liked by a faction of the union. Even then it was said in a suppressed language that the union should not do politics. It was alleged that BKU was supporting the SP-RLD alliance.

It was during the ongoing movement against the agricultural laws that the script of another major split in Bhakiyu was being written. In fact, the office-bearers who separated themselves from the organization believed that there was complete centralization of rights in BKU. The rest of the officers are being ignored. Even though Naresh Tikait is the president of BKU, all the decisions are taken by spokesperson Rakesh Tikait. The office bearers have also been kept in isolation. However, both Naresh and Rakesh refute the allegations and say that Bhakiyu belongs to everyone.

BKIU founder Mahendra Singh Tikait passed away in 2011. Even before and after this, Bhakiyu broke many times. This led to the formation of many organizations including Bhakiyu-Bhanu, Lokshakti, Mahashakti, Sauraj, Ambawat, Asli, Awadh, Tomar. But this time the split has dealt a big blow to Bhakiyu. This time together, a large number of 25-30 year old veterans have formed a new organization saying goodbye to the union. It is claimed that Bhakiyu was actually made apolitical by Mahendra Tikait but now it has become political. The important thing is that all the important officials who have gone to the new organization have been the backbone of BKU in their respective fields. Rakesh Tikait himself admits this. Be it Harinam Singh Verma in Lucknow or Rajesh Chauhan of Fatehpur. Be it Anil Talan of Aligarh or Mangeram Tyagi of Sayana. Everyone had an important role in the organization. Dharmendra Malik was associated with the union for 25 years.

Didn’t like guarding EVMs
During the last assembly elections, Rakesh Tikait had said that EVMs will also have to be guarded. This was not liked by a faction of the union. Even then it was said in a suppressed language that the union should not do politics. It was alleged that BKU was supporting the SP-RLD alliance.

The responsibilities of the movement also soured
During the farmers movement, different office bearers of BKU were given different responsibilities. The office bearers of the new organization say that all of them discharged their responsibilities well but they were looked upon with suspicion. When there is an organization, you have to believe by sharing responsibilities. One person cannot see all the work. If all the powers are to be given to one person, then what is the use of the rest? They say that democracy has ended in Bhakiyu.
