Punjab: Health Minister Vijay Singla sacked on target of ED, investigation started, agency looking into money laundering case

In connection with the Singla episode, ED sources recently cited Bhupinder Singh Honey, nephew of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, in illegal sand mining. The ED had arrested Honey in this case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Punjab’s sacked Health Minister Dr. Vijay Singla has come under the scanner of Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED has started investigation by linking this entire episode with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED is so far calling the audio clip recorded in the sting operation as important evidence. ED officials are also studying the copy of the FIR registered against Singla for preliminary investigation.

Punjab’s sacked Health Minister Vijay Singla’s troubles have increased after coming under the ED’s target. According to ED sources, the audio clip recorded during the sting operation in which Singla’s Special Officer (OSD) is heard demanding commission on approved government tenders is important evidence for the investigation.

Quoting sources, it has been said that if any contractor is talking about being paid in return for awarding government contracts in the audio clip, then this matter comes under the Enforcement Directorate. ED can start investigation by registering a case in such cases. Now in Singla’s case also the OSD of the minister had demanded a hefty amount of crores of rupees from the contractor and the deal was done for Rs.

Channi’s nephew Honey episode cited
In connection with the Singla episode, ED sources recently cited Bhupinder Singh Honey, nephew of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, in illegal sand mining. The ED had arrested Honey in this case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. ED sources said that Honey was not even named in the FIR lodged in 2018. However, Honey later admitted before the ED that he had earned money from illegal sand mining and transfer of officers.
