Punjab: Former Congress minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot arrested in corruption case, FIR also on Sangat Giljian

Former Punjab Congress minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has been arrested by Vigilance. He has been arrested in a corruption case.

The Vigilance Bureau has arrested former Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in a case related to the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA). He was nabbed from Amloh late on Monday night at 3 pm. He was arrested from Amloh in connection with the recent arrest of DFO Gurmanpreet Singh under PCA by the Vigilance Bureau, official sources said. At the same time, an FIR has also been registered against another former minister Sangat Singh Giljian in this case. Apart from two former ministers Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and Sangat Singh Giljia, the names of nine people are included in the corruption case registered by the Vigilance Bureau. These include Amit Chauhan IFS, Guramanpreet Singh Forest Division Officer, Dilpreet Singh Forest Guard, Chamkaur Singh, Kamaljit Singh resident Khanna, Kulwinder Singh Shergill and Sachin Kumar.

It is said that the arrested DFO and contractor Hammi had given details of wrongdoings in the forest department, after which Dharamsot was arrested. Sources said the former minister had links with the arrested forest officials. He is accused of being involved in illegal felling of over 25,000 trees. A Khanna-based journalist of a Punjabi daily newspaper has also been arrested in this case.

Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, who was the Forest Minister in the Captain’s government, has been accused of corruption in the past as well. According to the sources of the Vigilance Bureau, many high officials and former officers of the Forest Department are also involved in this corruption. The names of many officers have come up during the interrogation. Soon he too may be arrested.

Video went viral in 2020
A video related to corruption in the sale of Khair wood in the Shivalik hills to Karor and Mirzapur went viral. In which many officers of the Forest Department were talking among themselves saying that Rs 500 per tree of Khair is given to the higher officials and ministers of the department. At that time a departmental inquiry was also conducted in this matter. From the Chief Conservator of the Forest Department to the former Principal Secretary were also named in that investigation.

This was the case
On May 9, a case was registered against the owner of WWICS BS Sandhu on behalf of Mohali DFO Guramanpreet Singh at Nayagaon police station. After which his son Devendra Sandhu accused the DFO of corruption. In which he also gave a video. These corruption allegations were of taking two lakhs during their meeting on 30 April. In this case, on June 2, Vigilance Bureau registered a case and arrested DFO and contractor Harmohinder Singh alias Hammi. In that case, the accused were interrogated by taking remand of both of them for 4 days.

The diary of the contractor opened the poles of the leaders
Director of Vigilance Varinder Kumar said that the investigation so far has revealed that the accused were running the whole business of fraud in a big way. From felling of trees, to issuing transfer NOC, for everything, they used to get the said people to work for a huge amount. It has come to the fore in the investigation that money used to reach from minister Sadhu Singh Dharma Sot to high officials. The officer said that after questioning the contractor, he got a diary, in which many big disclosures have been made. So far, an amount of more than 1.5 crore has been confirmed to have gone to the accused. Apart from this, the Vigilance team is searching. All the records and facts are being collected. Hopefully other accused will also be caught soon.
