Punjab Budget: Will the Mann government be able to fulfill its promise? This big announcement was made for women before the election

Finance department sources say that some fund allocation to promote startups for youth has also been kept under consideration in the budget. The Aam Aadmi Party is giving special focus on education, health and agriculture in the budget to be presented in the session starting Friday.

Difficulties are still visible on women’s guarantee in the budget to be presented during the Punjab Assembly session starting on Friday. The possibility of delay in this guarantee is visible due to the increasing debt of the state exchequer. However, the government is busy preparing proposals in the budget to fulfill other guarantees.

Before the Punjab Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had guaranteed an allowance of Rs 1000 per month to the women of 18 years and above in the state. After the formation of the government, the opposition parties are continuously pressurizing to fulfill this guarantee of women, but due to the increasing debt of the state, difficulties are being created for this guarantee for the government.

The revenue deficit for the last financial year has exceeded the budget target. This is the reason why the government is finding it difficult to immediately announce an allowance of Rs 1000 per month for women. According to officials of the Finance Department, it is not being included in the budget proposals to be presented this year. The guarantees for which fund allocation is expected in the budget proposals to be tabled by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema include 300 units of free electricity, purchase of moong, maize at MSP and assistance to farmers going for direct sowing.
