Punjab Budget Session: No arrears to employees in Punjab yet, Finance Minister said during Question Hour – it is not possible to fix the time

Since the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission in 2016, the installments of arrears and dearness allowance are pending with the state government, for which the government employees from time to time hold protests against the government.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema made it clear on Tuesday that the government employees of the state will have to wait for the arrears as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, which has been implemented from the year 2016. The issue of payment of arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission to government employees was raised in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. 

During the Question Hour, MLA Charanjit Singh wanted to know from Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema that by when the arrears made under the Sixth Pay Commission would be paid to the government employees. In response, Cheema said in the House that it is not possible to fix any time limit for payment of arrears due to government employees. It is noteworthy that since the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission in 2016, the installments of arrears and dearness allowance are pending with the state government, for which the government employees from time to time hold protests against the government.

Legislator Labh Singh Ugoke , only one pension to
the disabled, asked the Social Security Minister whether there was any policy under consideration with the government to give disability pension as well as old age pension to differently abled people who are eligible for old age pension. In response to this, Minister Baljit Kaur said that the government is not contemplating to make any such policy as one person can take advantage of only one scheme. On this, MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke told the House that the differently-abled are facing a lot of trouble in the hospitals of remote areas to get the certificate of disability made.
