The Punjab government, which has agreed to get the CBI probed into the post-matric scholarship scam in Punjab, reversed its decision on Saturday. CM Bhagwant Mann has announced to get the matter investigated by the state agencies only. The CM had a meeting with the leaders of Valmiki Samaj on Saturday. In this, the society demanded that the investigation of the scholarship case should not be given to an external agency.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a meeting with the leaders of Valmiki Samaj at Punjab Bhawan. During this, he said that the culprits of this scam will not be spared and strictest action will be taken against them. Bhagwant Mann said that the agencies of Punjab are capable at their level, so the question of handing over the investigation to the CBI or any other central agency does not arise.

Now after the formation of the new government, the CBI had sought permission to start the investigation, demanding fresh documents. According to PMO sources, the chief minister had agreed to get the CBI probed but the scam documents were yet to be handed over to the CBI.

During the meeting, it was also decided that the issue of a dispute regarding the arrangements for the Lord Valmiki shrine would be resolved by the Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar. On the matter of appointment of law officers, Bhagwant Mann clearly said that there is no reservation in these posts in any other state. Along with this, he also said that the state government is in consultation with legal experts in this regard and soon the good news will be given to the brotherhood. The Chief Minister further informed that the services of Safai Sevaks are being regularized.
The Chief Minister informed that he has started this campaign from Ludhiana and in the coming days the contracting system will be abolished from the state. CM said that in the future efforts will be made to make all the recruitments on regular basis. The Chief Minister said that out of the Panchayati land being taken back from the influential people, 33 percent of the land would be given to the Scheduled Castes brotherhood. He said that a state-of-the-art Ambedkar Bhawan would be constructed in Mohali to provide standard education and competitive training to the students. Bhagwant Mann also asked the DGP to take strict action against those posting derogatory posts on social media.
