- More than 82,300 people have been safely evacuated from Kabul since August 14
- At least 4,500 of the 6,000 US citizens identified in Afghanistan and their families have been evacuated
The Taliban has taken complete control of Afghanistan. At the same time, different countries are running a campaign to evacuate Afghan people along with their citizens. The US recently made a statement that by August 31, Americans would be safely evacuated from Afghanistan. But now Foreign Minister Antony Blinken has said that people will be able to leave Afghanistan even after the campaign of 31 August is over.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said people would still be able to leave the country after the military evacuation effort ended. This effort will not end on August 31. This will continue as long as there is help in evacuating those who want to get out of Afghanistan.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during a press conference that since August 14, more than 82,300 people have been safely evacuated from Kabul. Of the 6,000 US citizens identified in Afghanistan, at least 4,500 and their families have been evacuated.
He further added that around 1,500 Americans could still be evacuated from Afghanistan. The Americans are still evaluating their decision to leave Afghanistan based on the situation on the ground.
A day earlier, President Joe Biden had said that the evacuation work would be completed by August 31 if the Taliban cooperated.
Huge crowd at the airport
After the control of the power of Afghanistan came into the hands of the Taliban, the situation there remains tense. People want to go out of the country by any means and for this, a huge crowd is gathering at Kabul International Airport.
With the entry of the Taliban in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, there has been an atmosphere of chaos for more than a week. People from all over Afghanistan are reaching Kabul Airport so that from here they can catch a flight and go to another country. At the same time, the Taliban has said that it will stop Afghan citizens from going to Kabul Airport.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said during a press conference that they had blocked roads leading to the airport. Afghans will no longer be able to go to the airport. Only foreign nationals will be allowed to go from that road to the airport.
Mujahid said that all Afghan nationals who have gathered at Kabul airport in the past should return to their homes. He also said that such people will not be punished by the Taliban. The Taliban have given the US military until August 31 to leave Kabul. Due to this, the number of people gathering at Kabul Airport to leave the country is increasing continuously.
