A painful accident took place on the day of Dussehra on 19 October 2018 at Joda Phatak in Amritsar. Standing on the track, the train passed by crushing the people watching Ravan Dahan. 59 people lost their lives in the accident. More than 150 people were injured there.
The court of Judicial Magistrate Vishwa Gupta framed charges against seven people including Congress leader Saurabh Madan (Mithu Madan) in the Joda Phatak train accident in Amritsar. The next hearing of the case will be on December 2. Summons have been sent to the villages. 59 people died in the accident and more than 150 people were injured.
Charges framed against them
The court has framed charges against Dussehra committee head Mittu Madan, general secretary Rahul Kalyan, treasurer Deepak Kumar, secretaries Karan Bhandari, Kabal Singh, and press secretary Deepak Gupta, besides Bhupinder Singh, the committee’s executive member.
The accident happened in 2018, 59 people died
On the evening of the Dussehra festival on 19 October 2018, Congress leader Mitthu Madan had organized the Ravan Dahan program at the vacant place near Joda Phatak. Mitthu Madan had invited the then cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and his MLA wife Dr. Navjot Kaur.
Screens were placed on the side of the railway lines to see the program, as a large number of people had come there to watch the Dussehra festival. During this, the high-speed DMU from Jalandhar had gone out crushing the people standing on the track. 59 people died in this train accident, while more than 150 people were injured. After the investigation of the SIT, the GRP had registered a case against unknown people but no accused was arrested in this case.
