President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday appointed Banwari Lal Purohit as the permanent governor of Punjab. However, in the release issued from Rashtrapati Bhavan, there is no mention of making Purohit the administrator of Chandigarh. Apart from this, former Vice Chief of Army Staff and retired Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh has been made the Governor of Uttarakhand.
According to Rashtrapati Bhavan, RN Ravi, a former IPS officer, and interlocutor of the Center, has been sent from Nagaland to Tamil Nadu as Governor. Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has been given additional responsibility for Nagaland.
VP Singh Badnore, the former governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, ended on August 22, but he continued to serve till August 27. On August 27, Banwari Lal Purohit was given the additional charge of Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh. Now he has been made the Governor of Punjab permanently.
But who will be the administrator of Chandigarh, it is not mentioned in the order. Local leaders of Congress and BJP have been demanding a separate administrator for Chandigarh for a long time. The leaders of Punjab opposed this. On which the Union Home Ministry had said that no such demand is being considered.
A separate administrator was appointed in the year 2016 also: In the year 2016, the central government made former IAS officer and BJP leader KJ Alphons the administrator of Chandigarh.
