- Banwarilal Purohit took oath as the 36th Governor of Punjab on Tuesday. Apart from being the Governor of Punjab, he will also be the Administrator of Chandigarh. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Captain Amarinder Singh, and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal, and several Punjab ministers attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday took oath as the 36th Governor of Punjab. Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ravi Shankar Jha administered the oath of office to Banwarilal Purohit at the Punjab Raj Bhavan. Banwarilal Purohit took oath in English.
He signed the affidavit which was also signed by the Chief Justice. Later Banwarilal Purohit signed separate documents as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Earlier, the nominated Governor reached the special pandal of the Punjab Raj Bhavan in a ceremonial manner. He was accompanied by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Earlier, Punjab Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan sought permission to start the ceremony and read out Banwarilal Purohit’s appointment as the Governor of Punjab.
Before taking the oath, Banwarilal Purohit reached Punjab Raj Bhavan at 12 noon. Where the PAP contingent gave him a guard of honor. He was received by Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh, Punjab Cabinet Ministers Brahm Mohindra, and Manpreet Singh Badal. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal along with Dharampal, Advisor to Chandigarh Administrator, Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh, and senior officers of Chandigarh Administration were also present on the dais at the swearing-in ceremony.
VP Singh Badnore left the post on Monday
VP Singh Badnore, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, resigned on Monday after completing his five-year term. A ceremony was organized at the Punjab Raj Bhavan to bid him farewell. In his farewell speech, Badnore said that I do not want to discuss the development works done during my tenure, whatever I did or what I could not, should be decided by the people of the city. Since development is a continuous affair, it does not stop and there is always room for more. On 22 August 2016, Badnore was appointed as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
