Farmers on Friday blocked the national highway and railway track in Jalandhar, Punjab, demanding that the minimum support price (MSP) for sugarcane be declared. Due to this, bus services from Jalandhar to Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh were affected on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway.
The farmers first closed the national highway near Dhannowali, then started dharna on the railway track. A large number of farmers and their supporters sat on the railway track. Therefore the trains were stopped at the last stations only. The farmers completely stopped the vehicles and railways going by road. Due to this, there is a gathering of buses inside the bus stand itself.
There was panic among the passengers. Till late evening, the operation of buses for Ludhiana and Chandigarh could not be smooth. Due to the demonstration of the farmers, there was silence in the government and private offices, because the bus passengers had to face a lot of problems due to the farmers’ dharna. The effect of the traffic blocked due to the dharna was also seen in the attendance of the offices. In many government and private offices, the bus is the only mode of transport for the people of the areas around Jalandhar. Many people depend on these buses to go to their office, but due to the closure of the bus service, such people have to face a lot of trouble.
