Security has been beefed up across Punjab amid fears of a terrorist attack. At the same time, the security forces are on the alert mode in the sensitive district Pathankot. After the arrest of terrorists and inputs from security agencies, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has issued a high alert in Punjab. Under this episode, a red alert has been issued in Pathankot, adjacent to the borders of Pakistan, Jammu, and Kashmir, and Himachal. This has been confirmed by Pathankot SSP Surender Lamba.
After the order of the Chief Minister issued on Wednesday evening, the police have increased vigil in Pathankot. Vehicles are being checked by putting 35 nakas in Pathankot. Apart from this, the borders of Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal have been sealed. Every vehicle is getting entry in Punjab only after checking.
Long queues of vehicles are being seen at inter-state blocks and police personnel is thoroughly checking all vehicles. In case of doubt, the identity cards of the drivers are also being checked. Pathankot SSP Surender Lamba himself is checking the night nakas.
On Thursday, policemen were present at the Chowk intersections of the district. SSP Surender Lamba says that the jawans are ready at a total of 35 nakas. Security has been increased in the very sensitive Pathankot from the point of view of security.
He said that apart from the day, three DSP, Inspector, and Sub Inspector level officers have been deployed in patrolling. The security system has been upgraded after the order from DGP Punjab. The investigation has been increased at the inter-state checkpoints of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal. He appealed to inform the police if any suspicious object, movement, or suspicious person is seen.
Police are on high alert in Gurdaspur too
Following the arrest of four more members of the ISI-backed terrorist module involved in an attempt to blow up an oil tanker with an IED tiffin bomb, SSP Dr. Nanak Singh has beefed up security under the jurisdiction of District Gurdaspur Police. On Thursday, the investigation was done by putting 25 nakas in the district.
At the same time, strictness has also been increased at the entry points of the district. Duty has been imposed for patrolling 30 teams. Police teams are checking each and every vehicle entering Gurdaspur city during the blockade. At the same time, ID proofs of people are also being checked. On the other hand, the SSP has also appealed to the people of the district that if any suspicious person or any object is seen, then immediately contact 112 number or the nearest police station.
SSP Dr. Nanak Singh said that the in-charge of all the police stations have been strictly instructed to increase the security arrangements. 25 police nakas have been set up in the district. At the same time, 30 teams have been deployed for petroleum. Apart from this, more teams are being formed to maintain the security arrangements in rural areas as well.
