Singer Gurdas Maan had made objectionable remarks during a fair at Dera Baba Murad Shah last month. In the same connection, the court on Wednesday rejected Mann’s anticipatory bail plea. Singer Mann had described Ladi Shah, who was the ruler of the dera, as a descendant of Shri Guru Amardas Ji. Sikh organizations filed a case against him for hurting religious sentiments.
In this case, Mann had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the District and Sessions Court. On Tuesday too, there was a huge gathering of Sikh Jathebandis outside the court as well. During the hearing, advocates of Sikh organizations Parminder Singh Dhingra and Ravinder Singh said that the sentiments have been hurt by Gurdas Mann’s remarks. If Mann stays outside, it can increase people’s displeasure and spoil the atmosphere of Punjab. Therefore his anticipatory bail application should be dismissed.
Mann’s lawyers argued that Gurdas Mann had said this out of ignorance. After this, he has apologized with folded hands and holding ears. Sikh organizations had announced the protest during the appearance of Gurdas Maan. In view of this, there was tight security outside the court complex. A large number of police forces were deployed here so that the dignity of the court would not be harmed.
