- The party high command is puzzled as to how to unite the state Congress as the disputes in the party are intensifying as the assembly elections in the state approach.
The condition of party affairs in-charge Harish Rawat has become like a pendulum in bringing about a reconciliation between Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Navjot Singh Sidhu and Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. As soon as Rawat announces to strengthen the Captain, swords of statements emerge from the minds of Sidhu and his supporters. At the same time, when Rawat starts standing with Sidhu, the pro-captain leaders become active.
On the other hand, the party high command is puzzled as to how to unite the state Congress, as the disputes in the party are intensifying with the assembly elections approaching in the state. During the last five months, due to the Captain-Sidhu dispute, Harish Rawat has had to make frequent trips to Chandigarh and New Delhi.
On Saturday, Rawat met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and informed him about Navjot Sidhu’s statements. Earlier on Friday, Rawat met party president Sonia Gandhi late in the evening and apprised her of Sidhu’s statements. Along with this, he also informed about the talks held with the leaders of the anti-captain camp of Punjab who came to meet him in Dehradun.
Rawat told the media after meeting Rahul Gandhi that there is no dispute in Punjab Congress and everything is fine. However, he also said that he would reach Chandigarh in the next day or two and try to settle it by holding a meeting of Captain and Sidhu. It is clear from Rawat’s statement that the high command wants to give preference to leaders other than Captain and Sidhu.
The high command feels that Sidhu’s advisor Malvinder Mali has had to withdraw due to his protest. Similarly, it is the responsibility of the Chief Minister that if the election is being fought under his leadership, then all the MLAs will have to coordinate. The high command and Rawat are seeing Sidhu’s statement of playing brick by brick, linking him with Akalis, BJP and AAP.
Sidhu had said during a party program in Amritsar on Friday that if he let me work according to his policy of aspirations and trust, he would ensure 20 years of Congress rule in the state. He also said, “But if you don’t allow me to decide, I will play brick by brick.” Considering this statement of Sidhu as a direct threat to the party’s high command, the stir in the Punjab Congress has also intensified. Meanwhile, Sidhu wrote in a new tweet on Saturday – ‘Punjab model means people make policies for business, industry, and power. The power should be given back to the people.
Even if we sigh, we become infamous: Manish Tewari
Punjab MP Manish Tewari tweeted the video of Sidhu playing brick with brick and wrote on Saturday that even if we sigh, we become infamous, even if he kills, there is no discussion. This tweet of Tiwari is being taken in the context that he wants immediate action against Sidhu by the high command.
Rawat wants to get out of pendulum condition
Harish Rawat, who has been swinging like a pendulum between Captain and Sidhu and the party high command for the last five months, wants to leave the charge of Punjab and be active in his state Uttarakhand as soon as possible, but every day the rhetoric from both ends is stopping him. In this regard, Rawat says that if my party says to continue with the responsibility of in-charge, then I will continue to discharge. I will go to Punjab in the next day or two and will meet Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and State President Navjot Singh Sidhu. We have only two priorities, one – how do we win elections, and second – protect the political interests of the people. Rawat says that the issues of MLAs were over by coming to me.
Sidhu aggressive player, Captain Congress CM: Rawat
Rawat said on Saturday – Sidhu is an aggressive player. We have to clap. We want that this attitude of our President should be maintained. We need aggressive batsmen at the time of elections, so we have made them. If he has a way of saying it, then he will also have to bear it. Earlier, Rawat has said about Captain Amarinder Singh – Captain is the CM of Congress, he is running the government. I said earlier also that elections will be held under the leadership of Capt. Captain Saheb has assured me that there will be no retaliatory action against anyone and if anyone is doing it, the MLAs and leaders should let me know.
