Banwari Lal Purohit, 81, made his debut in politics in the year 1977. In 1978, he won the assembly elections from Nagpur East on the ticket of Vidarbha Andolan Samiti.
Banwari Lal Purohit has been appointed as the Governor of Punjab and the new Administrator of Chandigarh on Friday. Banwarilal Purohit is currently holding the responsibility of the Governor of Tamil Nadu. According to the order, the Punjab Governor’s office will make all the formal arrangements.
Banwari Lal Purohit, 81, made his debut in politics in the year 1977. In 1978, he won the assembly elections from Nagpur East on the ticket of Vidarbha Andolan Samiti. Became Congress MLA from South Nagpur in 1980. In 1982, took over the responsibility of Minister of State for Urban Development.
In 1984 and 1989, he was elected as an MP from Nagpur-Kamathi Lok Sabha constituency on a Congress ticket. Left Congress in 1991 on Ram Mandir issue and joined BJP. In 1996, he was elected as an MP on a BJP ticket. Apart from politics, Banwari Lal Purohit is also associated with social work.
He was appointed as the Governor of Assam in January 2016 and the Governor of Tamil Nadu on 6 October 2017. At present, the tenure of Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore has ended on 22 August. He was waiting for President Ram Nath Kovind’s order for the last several days.
