The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Hoshiarpur has directed Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal to surrender before the trial court by September 13 for interim bail. In a criminal complaint filed against Shiromani Akali Dal leaders under several provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Sukhbir Badal has applied for interim bail.
Balwant Singh Khera, national vice president of the Socialist Party of India, had filed a criminal complaint in 2009 against the SAD leadership under sections 420, 465, 466, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B of the IPC for conspiracy, cheating, and forgery.
In November 2019, the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate had summoned SAD leaders, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Badal, and Daljit Singh Cheema in a cheating case. He had moved the Punjab-Haryana High Court to challenge the summons by the lower court. The High Court had on August 27 dismissed his petition against the proceedings of the trial court.
