It is noteworthy that Sunil Jakhar was elected as the leader of the legislature party meeting held in the presence of three observers of the high command at Punjab Bhawan on the same day the Captain submitted his resignation. Although his name was scheduled to be announced the next day by party president Sonia Gandhi, even before the next morning, the current deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa raised the demand for a Jat Sikh to be made chief minister. As a result, Sunil Jakhar kept on becoming the Chief Minister. Since then, Jakhar was angry with the party and other MLAs.
