The investigation report of the Rs 20 crore wheat scam has been summoned from the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Punjab State Food Commission has given 15 days time to the department. The Inspector of the Food Supplies Department committed the scam by misappropriating wheat. It is feared that the accused has now fled to Dubai.
The State Food Commission has become strict regarding the Rs 20 crore wheat scam in Punjab. The commission has summoned the complete investigation report of the matter from the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The department has been given 15 days for this. The investigation has revealed that the absconding food inspector was procuring wheat by making fake entries of wheat.
Punjab State Food Commission Chairman DP Reddy said that it has come to notice that Inspector Jasdev Singh Jandiala Guru (Amritsar) of the Food Supplies Department is the main culprit in the wheat scam case. He embezzled crores of rupees in the name of MSP of wheat, which was neither brought to the mandis nor bought.
Fake entries were made for the purchase of 87,100 quintals of wheat worth Rs 20 crore and it was shown being taken to the godowns of Jandiala Guru. Reddy said that the Punjab State Food Commission has taken serious note of the matter and issued notice to the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs to send a detailed report within 15 days.
Action recommended against the culprits
The Commission has also advised the Food Supplies Department to take strict disciplinary action against the erring officials, to compensate the loss to the exchequer, and to put in place proper systems (administrative and technical) to prevent such scams in the future.
