Bharat Biotech’s indigenous vaccine Covaxin has started trials on children. Right now, children in the 6 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years groups are vaccinated. It is expected that the Covaxin nasal spray will also arrive next month.
The trial of Covaxin in children has started on Tuesday at Prakhar Hospital in Aryanagar. The children are divided into three groups of two years to six years, six years to 12 years, and 12 years to 18 years. On the first day, 40 children aged 12 to 18 years were screened. 20 were found eligible. They were given the vaccine.
After this, 10 children aged 6 to 12 years were screened on Wednesday. Of these, five were vaccinated. Children were kept under observation for 45 minutes after vaccination. All were normal, only two children had slight redness at the injection site. This is also a common situation.
Chief Investigator of the trial Senior Pediatrician and former DGME Professor VN Tripathi said that this is the first trial in the world of corona vaccine on two-year-old children. Never before has this been done on such small children. He told that now the next turn is for the children of the group of two to six years.
The city is becoming the hub of children’s vaccine
The city has been the hub of vaccine trials among the elders. Apart from Covaxin, Russia’s vaccine Sputnik and Zydus Cadila’s vaccine were trialed here. Now in the case of children’s vaccines too, after Covaxin, other companies are planning to trial their vaccine. Along with this, the arrival of nasal spray is also expected next month. The nasal spray will be of Covaxin. The spray is touted to be a game-changer.
